After breakfast, we went off to see the old portion of Quito. After a nice visit to the Basilica (the main catholic church of Ecuador), we hit an unexpected snag. Their were protests downtown, and we could not get to the other churches we wanted to see. We had to wind all over the back, narrow streets to get to the Pancillo, a statue of Mary on a hill in the center of town.
We stopped at a market place, and an area of town famous for it's baskets on the way to the church. We enjoyed all of the different, and new kinds of fruit and veggies. There were flowers for sale as well. Everyone picked up some baskets and other similar products as well.
As with every night, we enjoyed supper cooked by the church ladies and visiting with the church members. We got home each night around 9pm. |
