Mission: Ecuador

Eye Care: Weeden Team

Thursday: Orientation and Training

This was the first day; a day to get oriented to Quito and the culture. So after our preliminary orientation meeting, we went to Middle of the World Visitors Center and Cultural museum. Later we went to a local restaurant to allow the team to get accustomed to Ecuadorian food, where we also met Ron and Esther Borman (missionaries to the Cofan people group in the jungle) for a great meal and fellowship.

Finally, we held our multi-church training session at Candelaria Baptist church, where each of the five churches involved in the eye care ministry had six of their members trained to be an integral part of the work

The team really enjoyed "Middle of the World" visitors center and museum, where you get a introduction to all the people groups that live in Ecuador, as well as the opportunity to stand exactly on the equator.

Early evening, we went to Candelaria Baptist church in Calderon for the training session to train all the different church members to work with us as team members of this wonderful work we would be doing for the following week.

We used "live" people for the training session

The training session involved 6 members from each of the 5 churches we would visit. We reviewed each of the stages we would need, including the sign-in, evangelism, pre-screening, and doctor's assistants. Training for each stage was critical for a smoothly operating team.
