Mission: intro Ecuador

Mission Team: March 2008

The mission team from 1st Baptist and 1st Presbetyrian from Corinth, Mississippi at the "Middle of the World".

Sharing God's love at "the Garden of Eden".

Corinth, Mississippi, our home base back in the States, provided another group to bless us here in Ecuador. Most team members were from 1st Baptist church, with two from 1st Presbyterian church. It was the first time here for any of these team members, and the first time for either of the churches (a lot of "firsts").

Team members: Jason & Jennifer Marshall, Chuck & Jaime Counce, Larry & Debby Reid, Jessica King (from Memphis), Ricky & John James, Randy & Ben Long (1st Pres.), Ethan Little, Ben Massey, Charles Pruitt, Matthew Page, Jenny Gregory, Maria Frazier, Heather Overbe, Veronica Boyer, and William Boyer.
Translators: Diego (pictured) & Freddy in Quito; Jimena & Monica in Salcedo.

The theme of this trip was VBS at the orphanage "Jardin del Eden" in Salcedo, with painting in the mornings, and time with the kids both formally and informally in the afternoons, starting Monday. There were organized crafts, music, stories, and testimonies every day.

The team arrived on Friday night, and I spent the weekend introducing them to our work here in the mountains around Quito; first at Nueva Vida church in Chambitola, and then Sunday at Linaje Escogido Church, where we had service, fellowship lunch, and a little exposure to the area of persecution in the mountains above the church where we are working to share the gospel.

At the orphanage, the VBS work was the scheduled main event, but the most impressionable part was the times spent with the kids informally... eating with them in their houses, playing whatever with them, and just loving on them. This team was very special, and the kids really loved them back.

We also got to hold our "dollars for top grades" program while the team was there as well. This program has dramatically improved the kid's grades at school over the past 3 years.

Below, please find a few of the pictures from the trip. It was a blessed one!
