Mission: intro Ecuador

Mission Team: May 2008

The mission team from Oakland Baptist of Corinth, Mississippi holding VBS at Linaje Escogido church.

Reaching Out to Lost Communities

Team members: Kenny Miles, Katie Miles, Jordan Pinkston, Taylor Lewis, Billy Taylor, and Lindsey Taylor.
Translators: Melissa Bond, Adrian Mejia, Santiago Mejia, Estevan Mejia, and Danny Kang.

The mission team came here on a very different trip than normal. Yes, we did VBS and evening outreach for the family each day (which is a norm for us), but this time it was in some hard areas that required a great deal of flexibility. In fact we put flexibility to the test. We targeted 4 unreached areas in particular; Monte Serin Alto, Chaupiestancia, Cangahua Pungo, and La Victoria de Quinche. At the last minute, Monte Serin Alto turned us down, so we added a day to another area. Weeks beforehand we saturated the villages of Chaupiestancia and Cangahua Pungo above our outpost church, Linaje Escogido with invitations. We could not hold our outreach in those areas due to persecution, so we invited them down the mountain to the church. It was very successful with 100+ kids the first day and 90 the second. We also held outreaches in Chambitola, a school in Pifo, and our high point for the week, La Victoria. La Victoria is where we've been holding a clandestine bible study in an area of persecution. We prayed for success and protection: we got both in abundance. 80 kids and 20 to 30 adults (and a dozen or so children too small to participate) blessed our outreach. Many prayed for salvation; it was the first time that most ever heard the gospel.

All in all, the group gets an A+ for flexibility, as we changed plans at one level or another EVERY DAY. Even the last day, we decided at the last minute to help Debbie Bond paint verses on some murals in Quito outside the school where she works. It was a wonderful experience as well, and we shared another few hundred tracts while playing Christian music. One teen was especially convicted by the Holy Spirit and we shared the gospel with him in great detail... pray that he gets saved!

Below, please find a few of the pictures from the trip. It was a blessed one!

Joy!

We gave out Tshirts
to all the kids and
many of the adults

Just as we were explaning
the white color- salvation,
a storm hit. It poured rain
and hailed without mercy.

But God had a plan,
and we ended up stuffed
in a house where many
prayed to be saved!

Then the storm...
complete with hail

I spliced this

but it shows us all

At night, as per
normal, we held our
family outreach with
testimonies, music,
a movie, and
sharing the gospel.
At La Victoria
we were in a
