Mission: Ecuador

October 2006 : Oakland Baptist Church

Monday

As with other days, we did something cultural in the morning before going to the churches. This day we went to the "old city" that's between 300 and 500 years old, and saw a couple of amazing catholic churches, covered in tons of gold. In the midst of much poverty, it seemed out of balance.

Later, we went to for a two hour ride to a small Quichua church in Tupigachi. The people were warm and gracious, and we got a complete imersion into the agriculturally based Quichua culture. For dinner, we ate pork, guinnea pig, corn, home made cheese, and potatoes. We were treated like royalty and could sense that they were giving us the best they had to offer. We had a special service at the end, as we did every evening, and were really touched by their love and God's presence. We were given gifts at the end, presented by different members of the church in appreciation for our work with the children.
