Mission: Ecuador

October 2006 : Oakland Baptist Church

Tuesday

Today, we stuck around the local area of the Guest House, and visited the Alliance Academy where Deb teaches, and the girls go to school.

After lunch, we went to "Candelaria" Baptist church (mother church of the others) and worked with Pastor Pedro Vasquez. We had a great time with the kids, and enjoyed the meal. As usual, we had a wonderful praise service at the end, with music, testimonies, and the presentation of three missionaries from the church for next year's work in the mountains.

Later, after everyone had left, I asked Pastor Vasquez to share his experiences of persecution as he spread the gospel and planted churches some decades ago. There was much violent opposition to the gospel in this area as recent as 1984. We were all moved to tears as we heard from a living "Paul" in his great humility.
